maps and guide information were very beneficial for several planned hikes into Southern Utah slot canyon country, saved a lot of mapping via google and gave good area info
Great read. Now I'm trying to figure out how to take a digital version of this along with me into Grand Gulch.
This book was one of several that I purchased to help plan a five day backpack for eight guys from Wisconsin in the Escalante River Canyon during September 2012. The book was very helpful in its general description of backpacking in the Escalante River Canyon and specifically the description of the Harris Wash portion of our hike. However, it was not helpful after we left Silver Falls Creek and headed south on the Escalante River. We were doing a loop hike that involved hiking downstream to exit the Escalante River Canyon via Twenty-five mile Wash and Fox Canyon (which we couldn't find). That portion of the canyon is not covered by the book. There are no trails. The scenery was beautiful. We didn't see any other hikers on the entire trip. Unfortunately, it had rained the week before so the Harris Wash water was extremely silty and we encountered a lot of quicksand on the Escalante. We ruined three cameras and a pedometer in one day. Fortunately it didn't rain while we were in the canyon. The book is great for the hikes that it covers.

Good descriptions and nice maps for the hikes.
This is a good handbook for the GS/ENM region, but I'm only giving it 4 stars because it didn't contain any information about the hike I was trying to research (Death Hollow). There is an overview of how to take the Boulder Mail Trail to Death Hollow, but there is no information about the stretch through Death Hollow to the Escalante River. We had to rely on printouts from someone's blog to get us through that section of the hike.
An excellent hiking guide to a little-known area.
