Great story! BUT!!! The hardcopy book is so cheap and poorly constructed it is shocking. You can actually see words on the other side of the page the paper is so tin and cheap. And the pictures - the quality is so poor it is unreal. They look like cheap photocopies from an old black and white printer. It looks like the book was just printed on something super cheap using the digital version. SOOOO Disappointing. And my 10 year old could totally tell. I remember back in the day, when you could reliably buy stuff from Amazon and not receive low quality, possibly knock off junk. I may be done with Amazon if they can't deliver quality. Its just not worth the risk of ordering something for your kid to be delivered, having him open it and seeing the disappointment looks nothing like real books he gets from the library.
This is a fun story for a young child to read. I would have given it 5 stars except that I didn't think the father and son were very nice to the family that lost the dog when they had to return him and when the dog came back to them they intentionally didn't take him to town so the original family couldn't reclaim him. That does not seem to me like a good example is being set. It does however set up a good discussion situation with the child and a chance to find out what they think or what they might have done.
Nice size print for little ones to read. Short chapters and quality reading.
Arrived in great condition, exactly as described.
My eight yr old just read this & liked it. He enjoys reading about dogs. Recommend to parents with young boys who love dogs!
I read it to my almost 6 year old grandson and he loved it!! He borrowed it so his mother could reread it to him. I am a retired elementary teacher who a couple years ago read it to my students so I thought my grandson would like it.

Like many other books that are supposedly written for YA (youth audiences or young adults), this book is great for any age. If you liked the move "Twister", with Helen Hunt, you will LOVE this book. Remember Twister, how Helen Hunt and her ex tried to get their canister of little sensors released into the middle of a twister? It was back when Helen Hunt was still the girl next door and before she became all Hollywood. Now she's stick thin and only does the type of films that are shown downtown in the uppity theaters. I think Twister was her best work. Anyways, Tornado is similar but it's a book about a tornado. And here's the kicker, it's also about a super smart dog named Tornado. I sometimes got confused whether the author was referring to the dog or to the actual Tornado, but once you get into the swing of things, it all becomes pretty clear. And like Twister, while we learn how destructive tornadoes can be, everyone comes out ok in the end. In fact, the ending of this book is much better because you don't have Helen Hunt getting back together with her no good ex.
