This is a must have. The binding is wonderful. I knew nothing about Willard Palmer but after seeing what he's done here I am confident this is one of the better editions. The ornamentation page at the front is worth the price of the book. Palmer uses modern pedal notation which for Chopin is so much easier than the traditional "Ped. *" notation. You can of course ignore his fingering & pedaling but I tend to agree with his decisions. Print is slightly less than full black but the layout is spacious, no cramming, no tiny type. And it lays flat. Even though I have the Paderewski edition, I'll use this instead because it is much easier to read.
The comb binding makes a huge difference! But most importantly, the print size is much more readable than a Schirmer addition I had. I still had to copy a section from another publisher to be able to read it and I did find one mistake in one Nocturne.
For intermediate pianist. Nocturnes are always so beautiful. It is like a 'must-have' for Chopin Nocturnes lovers. The binding makes it easy to open the book flat. My daughter loves the way it spaces out for her and (her teacher) to make notes for music study.
Alfred is not my favorite publisher, but the book itself is really nice. Large on the page so it's easy to read, and most of the songs in this book are not long enough to need too many page turns. Chopin nocturnes are a must-have for serious pianists.
I already had a copy of this book. I ordered it for the binding once I realized that it was called "comb" binding. I haven't used it yet, but I am sure it will take away some of my frustration trying to play Chopin. The rest I will have to get rid of by practicing.... :)
I bought this music because I have it on my ipod played by Ashkenazy. Oh that I could play like Vladimir! At any rate, this is some of the most beautiful music ever written and the book is very well done indeed. It includes all of the nocturnes and is quite easy to read. Since there are a total of 128 pages, it is very nice to have the coiled binder. The book lies at the keyboard very well and will probably last longer than books without that kind of binder. I recommend this music and this particular edition highly.
There are some incorrect notes in this Chopin Nocturnes binder, but I can fix those myself. I appreciate the convenience.
