About the Author
HENRIETTA C. MEARS was one of the great Bible teachers of the 20th century. This is a GREAT book for anyone who isn't too familiar with the Bible and wants to know some general background before diving into the book. I've learned quite a bit about the history and context of the Bible books. I've even gifted this book! GREAT PURCHASE and GREAT READ!!!
Henrietta Mears was probably one of the greatest women of God who ever lived. This book has simple sentences and even fragments but the notes present a warm God who seeks to save man through Jesus. Background information are concise yet easy to memorize, and her personal touch of these notes really helped me to develop a more solid understanding of every book of God's Word. Henrietta was a celibate woman devoted to God her entire life ever since childhood, and wholly passionate for God and His Word. Her autobiography was a very blessed and challenging read as well. Reading this concise Bible commentary after reading her autobiography was a blessing indeed

As a pastor and college instructor, I have picked up many "bible handbooks" over the years and this is, by far, my favorite and most used of the lot. Mears does a masterful job of summarizing the books of the Bible with key themes and persons.Her evangelistic zeal comes through in the text as she poses questions to the reader regarding his or her response to the truths being read. This makes the purpose of the book clear: Knowledge of the Bible to know the Author of it, not simply knowledge for its own sake.This is definitely a layman's text, as most Bible handbooks are. It is not intended to serve the academic or theological communities. It is perfect for personal study as well as Sunday School teachers or other church leaders who might be teaching lessons based on specific books of the Bible.I recommend this book to all who want a "grow-in-your-Christian-faith" deeper knowledge of the Scriptures. I am considering it as a secondary text for the college course I teach.

Fortunately, A group of businessmen who realized their value arranged for them to be published in this book. This is a volume every Christian, and especially every Sunday School teacher, should be using for background information about the Bible.
There are not enough good words to describe this book. A friend of mine is in an in depth Bible study and was truly thrilled to receive this gift I sent her. It's a must have for every Christian library.
This is an excellent study guide to read along with reading the Bible. It provides a high-level view of each book and the main story and people involved. I would recommend it to those who might get lost in the details of the Bible and losing the essence of the message...like me.
