This book is for the creatives who aspire to balance business and creativity. Most biz books only tell you about strategy of success. This is the first book that talks about the EMOTION of building a brand. The wins and the losses. The ego and humility. As an emerging fashion designer, I am forever changed. I now understand why the things that I have tried in the past did not resonate with the masses. Its about being authentic. As a fan of your work, I would like to Thank You Marc for sharing this story which is in my opinion your best creation yet.
Good book.Less of an advice book and more of a "here's some stuff we did, it wasn't as glamorous as you might've thought" book. Fans of streetwear or fans of How To Make It In America fiending for some new content or something to cross reference with their own experiences might get a kick out of this. Enjoyed a ton and for whatever was lacking, I was reminded that the point is partly for you to fill in the blanks and "make it work".Would recommend.
This is required reading for anyone looking not only start a business to have deeper understanding of what moves them. Ecko is honest and open about both his business success and failures and it's really refreshing and inspirational. I've read a ton of business and philosophy books and this is by far one the best books I have read on both topics. Honestly it's one the best books I have ever read. This should mandatory reading in high school and or college course. I'll be sure to have my teenage sone read it and have discussions with him along the way as he progresses through the book. This book has excellent business strategies. If you love Ecko (like i do) you will love this book. Not only does Marc have excellent effective business strategies, methods, and theories throughout the book, the entire book is also an auto-biography, from his birth to 2013. I recommend this book for anybody who is looking to start a business or who just want to know the story behind Ecko Unlimited.
I never really wore Ecko stuff growing up.I actually never knew who Marc Ecko really was until I read this book.This book was an entertaining look into what it took to get to where he is today.I appreciated how he also gave a fair share of the text to the failures he experienced throughout his career.After reading this book I gotta give the man some respect for building the brand.If you are thinking of starting your own clothing brand or are about to start working in the fashion industry is recommend you read this play book as a prerequisite to know what it takes to make it to the top.
I watched the Chase Jarvis Live interview with Marc and had to read the book. From start to finish he tells his life story, incorporates his 'equation' and inserts pictures of his past and work. I highlighted a ton of this book for some of his more motivational phrases and ways of doing business. I recommend this book to anyone who is trying to promote their own creative and needs that extra push. But for the rest of the readers if you pick it up you will not be disappointed.
Bought this book a little over a week ago and finally got a chance to read it all the way through. I don't read often but found this book "sticky" and attention grabbing. The youthful language kept me hooked as he broke-down many situations he faced in finding himself and creating authenticity. This book will serve as a reference when seeking to "unlabel." Would recommend this book for anyone not only business students. Very honest account of wealthy creator who sought out to be significant not just successful.
This is a must read if you are an entrepreneur (or a creator) or you want to be. This isn't a self help book or a key to becoming a millionaire, this is real. Marc doesn't hide anything and in his honesty this is where you connect on a deeper level. His tales of ups and downs of business ownership, mistakes and opportunities give hope to everyone who is out there trying to make it!
