On the physical book, it's well made and the text is easy to read, the fact that it has not only the text of the Aqdas itself but the prayers, codification, and notes on the text also help aid in understanding.On the actual text, having read the Bible and Qur'an as well I can say this doesn't come across as anything special or different. If you don't find either of those compelling (particularly the Qur'an as this references it multiple times) you won't find this compelling.
If you are a Baha'i this book is a must. It is the book of laws for the Faith, and instructs us on how to live our lives. This could also be a great thing for a seeker of the Faith to read and learn how Baha'i live their lives, and the administrative order. The Kitab-I-Aqdas is very powerful and also beautifully written by Baha'u'llah and translated into English by the Guardian of the Faith Shoghi Effendi, the Great Prophet's great grandson.
the book is in great shape. it is so nice to have the bigger print as I get older. The paperback is just too small.

despite what other commenters may say, the copy i received was the UHJ Translation, not the Elder-Miller.it's not bad, just as long as you are able to understand the purposely vague language. in fact, dare i say, Vandweller is splitting hairs.yes, the UHJ put up a front of a liberal religion while in reality being a theocratic and male supremacist maze to trap people wanting a more modern religion. but despite all of that, they genuinely wanted to translate the text of the books in a fashion that would be comparable to that of the original.(also, the common complaint in anti-baha'i circles that the UHJ book is far longer than the Elder-Miller version can be explained by the appendices, which is 269 pages long.)

The Kitab-I-Aqdas is regarded as the “Most Holy Book†of our religion for a reason. With every new revelation of God laws are changed according to the times. These new laws are the key to living a spiritual life ordained by the Creator for that place in history. They are a protection from the dangers of life as well as an inspiration to living this life in spiritual harmony and in preparation for the world to come. The book starts with an introduction by the Universal House of Justice. It explains how the laws were revealed and how they are being gradually applied according to the times. Some laws were revealed by the Bab but not adopted by Baha’u’llah. This introduction is followed by a summary written by Shoghi Effendi. This book has been alluded to as the “new heaven†and the “new earth†in the Book of Revelation, as “the New Jerusalem coming down from Godâ€, and as the “Most Holy Bookâ€. There is a summary of the laws contained in the book which are of three types: the individual’s relationship to God, physical and spiritual matters, and relations among individuals and to society. The text of the Kitab-I-Aqdas follows and is 83 pages long and which was revealed originally in Arabic. Following this are 107 Questions and Answers dictated by Baha’u’llah and further explaining the laws. Next comes a Synopsis and Codification in the next twenty pages. Lastly are listed “Notes†which comprise 194 notes which are a further explanation of the Laws and Ordinances found in other Baha’i Revelation sources. Historically it took the Universal House of Justice years of weekly consultation to get the book available to the Baha’is and the world at large. I am just over-whelmed and thankful that this is the best that could ever be done in presenting these new laws to the world. When I recall that Jesus Christ only changed basically two laws (the Sabbath and marriage) and recall what a great challenge that was to the Jews - here we have Baha’u’llah changing the pivot of the world’s cultures- both individually and collectively. When I look at today’s society, I am grateful to have what I consider as God’s latest laws and guidance for the individual people and society.
This paperback edition of the Kitab-i-Aqdas consists of a translation by two Protestant Christian clergymen and former missionaries to Iran who, as a result of their mission work, became avowed enemies of the Baha'i Faith. Their translation as such is of questionable accuracy, as their principle intention was to attempt to dissuade Westerners from investigating this religion with an open, unbiased mind.An edition of this translation can be found at the end of a book by one of the translators, William McElwee Miller, entitled, "The Baha'i Faith: Its History and Teachings" (1974) -- a thinly-veiled piece of anti-Baha'i propaganda -- which one can buy at the time of this writing for $20.99 (used) or $49.75 (new). I've written my own critical review of this latter work (q.v.).As an additional note, the product information on this book erroneously states that this is a publication of the Baha'i Publishing Trust. It was, in fact, published by the Royal Asiatic Society, which fact becomes obvious when one examines a magnified image of the cover -- albeit the magnified version is pretty blurred.
