This book delivers. It was a Christmas present for my father, a lover of steam engines. His first real job was shoveling coal into the firebox of a steam engine.He has been raving about the photos as well as the writing in the book.
Three stars because there was only one photo which was new to me. I have all of his railroad books and a few of his other books so I've seen the pictures before. Mr. Plowden is a wonderful photographer and captured images of the last days of steam locomotives in a way that very few other people have.
A great book with very excellent photographs. David Plowden always gives the viewer a fine selection of images that really captures life. This volume is well worth the money for anyone to purchase whether or not you're interested in rail photos. Take a look I'm sure your love this book.
Purchased for a train buff, and he loved it. Photos are gorgeous.
This book was a gift for a train enthusiast. We have heard good reviews from him about this book. In fact when he opened it at Christmas, his eyes lit up, as did the eyes of his oldest son, age 6. I think it was a good purchase.

A master of his craft finally has an appropriate showcase for his talents. Recommended for all railfans (like myself), with a steam locomotive preference.
I love trains and train travel and have thoroughly enjoyed the photographs. Been to a few of the places, which makes it even more special.
